Abstract

Introduction:-Corneal ulcer is one of the major cause of preventable blindness. the penetration of topical drugs during the treatment plays a major role in the prognosis. removing the slough from surface has been found to be beneficial.

Aim : To study the efficacy of therapeutic corneal scrapping in the management of non healing corneal ulcer.

Materials and Method: A study was done among 30 patients with corneal ulcer. 15 patients were managed by conservative medical management along with scrapping of the ulcer base and the other 15 were managed only by conservative method. NLD patency and RBS were seen prior to study.

Results: out of 15 managed by scrapping with conservative management 14 patients showed clinical improvement while in the other group only 9 patient showed clinical improvement.

Conclusion: Therapeutic scrapping is an effective method in the management of non healing corneal ulcer because of the better penetration of drugs and mechanical removal of pathogenic load.
