Abstract
AIM : To compare the effectiveness of oral ivabradine & clonidine as premedicates on IOP changes post intubation with succinylcholine .Methods: 105 patients of 18-50 years age scheduled for elective surgeries under general anesthesia where allocated into three groups of 35 each . Group I were given oral ivabradine , Group II were given oral clonidine and Group III received a placebo 1 hour before intubation .IOP was noted just before premedication, just before intubation, just after induction of anaesthesia then 2 min , 5min , 8min and then 10 min after intubation. Results: clonidine was able to significantly decrease the IOP after intubation with succinylcholine (p<0.001) .The range of IOP rise from baseline to IOP after intubation with succinylcholine was very less with clonidine in comparison to ivabradine and the placebo group. Hence, Oral clonidine can be effectively and safely be recommended as premedicate for reducing the rise in IOP post intubation with succinylcholine.
