Abstract
METHOD Retrospective study
RESULT Study revealed 291 cases(179 M & 112 F)who underwent exenteration with a median age of 50 years(11 months to 87 years). HPE showed most commonly eyelid tumors(140) followed by retinoblastoma(63) and primary orbital tumors. SCC(84) was the most common eyelid tumor, while adenoid cystic carcinoma of lacrimal gland(11) was the most common 1′ orbital tumor. In 9 cases, it was performed as a debridement procedure for control of infection.
CONCLUSION Eyelid & periorbital malignancies are the most common indications worldwide. In our study, SCC & Extraocular Rb were the commonest for which exenteration was performed, in contrast to the higher incidence of BCC reported in West. Early diagnosis and treatment with a close follow up can avoid secondary orbital spread and need for exenterations .
