To identify the predictors of good and poor visual outcome in patients with acute post cataract surgery endophthalmitis.
Methods
A prospective study of 60 patients who presented with acute post cataract surgery endophthalmitis between January 2017 to June 2018 was done. Baseline data , surgical and treatment details were collected.Vision > 6/12 and < 6/60 at third month were considered as good and poor visual outcomes respectively. Results In our study, 32 (53.3%) patients had good visual outcome whereas 11 (18.3%) patients had poor visual outcome. Absent hypopyon (OR-19.50[95% CI, 2.87-132.14]), absent FM over IOL (OR-15.0[95%CI, 2.34-96.89]) were independent factors for good visual outcome. Negative microbiological culture (OR-18.67[95%CI, 2.32-150.13]) was associated with poor visual outcome. Discussion Initial clinical findings and microbiological profile determine the final visual outcome of acute post cataract surgery endophthalmitis in our study.
