Abstract
Aim:Compare 2 dry eye(DE) questionnaires, in Indian DE patients. Method: Cross- sectional study comparing Hindi version of Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI) and Dry Eye Questionnaire 5(DEQ5). Results: Of 101 patients 35 were males and 66 females with mean age of 47±13.2 years. DE diagnosed with OSDI was 80(79.2%) and with DEQ5 was 83(82.2%). The interrater reliability of DEQ5 compared to OSDI was moderate(Cohen’s kappa:0.587,P<.0001). Sensitivity of DEQ5 was 79.2% and specificity was 61.9%. OSDI correlated significantly with all DE tests except meibomian gland expressibility. DEQ5 correlated with tear breakup time and lissamine green score. DEQ5 scored slightly more than OSDI(-0.01 units) and performed better in mild-moderate DE in Bland-Altman analysis. All patients completed DEQ5, only 18.8% completed all 12 questions in OSDI. Conclusion: Both questionnaires performed well, but fewer patients completed OSDI. OSDI correlated better with DE signs. In mild DE, DEQ5 was more sensitive.
