Abstract
AIM-To study incidence, clinical picture, and visual prognosis in ocular and adnexal injury in bear bite.
MATERIAL AND METHODS-This is an observational, hospital based and interventional study done on 23 patients who attended eye emergency and OPD of a tertiary care center during October2019 to February2020. In this study age, sex, severity, management, visual prognosis was included.
RESULT-Out of 23 patients 19(82.6%) were male, and 4(17.4%) were female. 22(95.7%) of them were adolescents and 1(4.3%) was in pediatric age group. 22(95.7%) of them had open globe injury and 1(4.3%) patient had only adnexal tissue loss. Visual prognosis varies from 6/18 to PL negative.
CONCLUSION- A substantial part of Jharkhand is enclosed by forests, making people susceptible to bear attacks. Acquainting people with defense tactics on bear encounter can ease the severity of attacks, also knowledge of incidence, severity and prognosis of these injuries is imperative for its prevention and management.
