Abstract
Fifteen eyes of 15 patients with Idiopathic Macular Holes were studied retrospectively with Visual acuity and SD-OCT images preoperatively and 1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 months postoperatively. The reconstruction of External Limiting Membrane, Ellipsoid Zone and Interdigitation Zone at various post operative time along with disappearance of glial tissues were evaluated and correlated with visual acuity improvement in those eyes.
The macular holes were successfully closed in all the eyes included in this series. The mean visual acuity improved significantly from 0.9714 preoperatively to 0.4159 postoperatively. ELM reconstructed mostly in 1 month postoperative, EZ in 3 months and CIZ mostly 6months or beyond. Sooner ELM reappeared postoperative and then EZ, better the visual acuity improvement. The sequence of reconstruction of layers seen was ELM EZ IZ. Thus significantly positive correlation was found between outer retinal layers reconstruction and postoperative visual acuity improvement.
