Abstract
Aim: To compare outcomes of combined PPV+SB & PPV alone for RD in colobomatous eyes.
Methods: Retrospective review of 49 eyes with RD with RC coloboma from 2013-19 done. Group 1(25 eyes) underwent combined PPV+SB & Group 2 (24 eyes) PPV alone. Medical records of patients were reviewed for preoperative & follow-up examinations including VA, recurrences & complications. Main outcomes were- single-surgery anatomic success (SSAS) rate, complications & VA improvement.
Results: SSAS rate of both groups were comparable (72% vs 76% respectively) (P=0.62). There was no significant difference in final VA in both groups (Group 1 Mean±SD 1.480 ±0.84 logMAR & 1.63±0.85 in Group 2 (P=0.52). Complication rate was also comparable in both groups ( P=0.48).
Conclusions: Combining an encircling band with vitrectomy in patients with RD in RC colobomatous eyes does not significantly improve primary anatomical success, Final VA and complications rate in comparison to treatment with vitrectomy alone.
