Abstract
Residents are in their formative years and whatever they learn during residency will have a lasting impact on their career. It therefore becomes the responsibility of the Institutes offering residency programs to have a curriculum in place which is comprehensive and holistic. The skills required in the examination of the patient, arriving at a diagnosis, ordering investigations and ancillary tests and treating the patient are anyway taught to residents. Besides these, empathy, soft skills and humanity are an integral part of health care. Also the mentors should set an example of an ideal code of conduct in the personal interaction with patients, fellow doctors and staff of the hospital. A tip or two on managerial skills, right choice of equipment and their technical aspects and marketing tools should ideally be a part of the curriculum. This IC aims at covering these aspects with the help of experienced mentors to provide a holistic menu to the budding practitioner.
