Abstract
In India cerebral visual impairment ( CVI) is becoming one of the leading cause of profound visual impairment in children especially with the improvement of perinatal care and increased survival of the preterm babies .Cerebral visual impairment is defined as vision loss as a result of damage to the retrogeniculate pathway of the visual system in the absence of any ocular pathology . There is a need for ophthalmic community to be sensitive and offer optimal services to such children. The course will highlight the causes of CVI , co-relation with MRI findings and the higher visual impairments caused by affection of the dorsal and ventral stream of the brain . The course will demonstrate the specialized vision assessment tools and refraction techniques to assess refractive errors and accommodation anomalies . Important tests like Functional and cognitive vision assessment and grading of CVI will also be demonstrated . Management strategies with success stories will be discussed .
