Abstract
Aim:To assess prevalence of glaucoma in patients attending a tertiary care centre.
Methods:Population based cross sectional study in hospital set up from Dec2015–March 2020.All patients ≥40 years subjected to opportunistic screening for glaucoma including IOP,Van Herrick Grading of anterior chamber angle & disc evalution.Glaucoma suspects further evaluated by gonioscopy, perimetry(HFA),optical pachymetry,RNFL thickness analysis & disc photography.Glaucoma defined according to International Society Geographical & Epidemiological Ophthalmology.
Results:Of total 27,869 subjects evaluated,overall prevalence of glaucoma was 2.04%.1.76% had POAG,0.27% had PACG,0.02% had secondary glaucoma.Additional 0.35% had primary angle closure & primary angle closure suspects.
Conclusion:This study is first of its kind from this part of the country with large population base & spanning 4 year duration.POAG was most common form of glaucoma in our study. Prevalence of PACG was lower than other studies.
