Abstract
Aims:To evaluate bacterial contamination of surface, equipments in Ophthalmology operation theatres(OT),to study seasonal variation in microbiological surveillance report and to correlate with OT sterilization protocol. Materials and methods:5 years(May2014-2019)retrospective analysis of the data was obtained from routine microbiological surveillance.
Results:Out of 739 samples from surfaces,equipments,203(27.46%)samples yielded isolates.Predominant species was Bacillus in 98(30.412%) followed by Staph.aureus 70 (19.364%).Floor 36(11.01%)showed highest isolates.More isolates were found in March(43).Isolates were identified with OT protocols being followed.
Conclusion:Predominant organism isolated was Bacillus.Floor was most contaminated surface.Seasonal variation with more isolates were found in March. There was no correlation found with the OT sterilization protocol.
