Abstract
Aims: To compare direct and oblique i/vit inj. technique in terms of fluid reflux, IOP and therapeutic effect.
Material and methods: 60 eyes were randomly allocated to 2 groups. IOP was measured before and immediately and then at 30 min. after inj. Occurrence of fluid reflux was recorded. BCVA and CMT were assessed before and at 6 weeks post inj.
Results: IOP(mmHg±SD) increased significantly immediately after inj. to 24.30±3.02 (direct group) and 31.50±3.49(oblique group). Pressure rise differed significantly between both groups (mean difference:7.2,P<0.0001).Incidence of fluid reflux was significantly higher in direct group. No significant difference in BCVA and CMT outcome between groups. Conclusion: Direct technique has lesser rise in IOP and higher incidence of fluid reflux than oblique technique. Fluid reflux does not cause a therapeutic compromise in terms of BCVA or CMT changes, so the reflux fluid must be vitreous not the drug. Thus direct inj. seems to be preferred technique.
