Abstract
A randomized sampling was used in selecting pre-school children from Anganwadi’s in the area of Vishrantwadi and Yeravda from October to December in 2019. It was a cross sectional study of pre-school children in the age group (36-71 months) in Pune. All the subjects underwent comprehensive eye examination. 1341 children (aged 3-6 years, Mean3.85 ± 1.00) were screened in 36 Anganwadi. 693 (51.7%) children are female. Out of 1341 pre-school children, 81 (6.0%) children were detected to have ocular morbidities. Of these 81 allergic Conjunctivitis was noted in 2 (2.4%), Bacterial conjunctivitis 3 (3.7%), Blepharitis 6 (7.4%), Cataract 2 (2.4%), Chalazion 1 (1.2%), Conjunctivitis 2 (2.4%), Convergence Insufficiency 3 (3.7%), Corneal opacity 3 (3.7%), Nystagmus 4 (4.9%), Ptosis 2 (2.4%), Refractive error 42 (51.8%), Strabismus 8 (9.8%), Stye 2 (2.4%), Viral Conjunctivitis 1 (1.2%). Refractive errors is common in urban lower socioeconomic strata children and need screening and treatment.
