Abstract
Purpose: A single case report of Congenital Mature Teratoma of Eye
Case Report: A 7 year boy presented with a soft, cystic and non-pulsatile swelling in the medial aspect of the left orbit since childhood. Left eye showed microcornea and absence of pupillary reaction. Visual acuity and fundus could not be tested. Right eye was normal. B Scan of left eye showed presence of cystic fluid and rudimentary eye structures. A diagnosis of congenital cystic eyeball was made. The patient underwent fluid aspiration and intralesional steroid injection followed by enucleation. Histopathology report confirmed the diagnosis of congenital mature teratoma.
Conclusion:-Teratoma is a rare tumor, having structures originating from all three germinal layers. The most common location of teratoma is the gonads. Orbital teratoma is extremely rare. The case is being reported due to its rarity and also to highlight the clinical course, radio-graphic and histopathological findings of this tumor.
