Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the correlation of OBL with corneal biomechanics and densitometry in eyes undergoing SMILE for myopic correction. Methods: OBL pattern was graded by the surgeon intra-operatively following laser delivery using semi-transparent overlay with multiple zones. Also, ease of dissection was graded after lenticule removal. CBI, TBI, densitometry values were correlated with OBL. Results: In this prospective study we evaluated 200 eyes of 200 patients, mean age (25.83±4.65), SE (-3.99±2.63). The mean pre CBI, TBI, densitometry, OBL and the grade of ease of dissection was 0.27, 0.08, 15.44, 23.12, and 3.02 respectively. OBL was negatively correlated with CBI and TBI and positively correlated with pachymetry, densitometry and post-op OSI scores. Conclusion: Results of the study indicate higher OBL incidence in denser cornea potentially affecting visual recovery. Based on this existing nomograms for energy optimization in SMILE may be further refined.
