Abstract
Materials and Methods: Our Hospital has a hospital infection control committee which requires periodic reporting of hospital acquired infections. The pre COVID pandemic data of number of hospital acquired conjunctivitis and number of OPD was available. The data of patients after institution of COVID prophylaxis measures was prospectively collected.
RESULTS: The months of April and May were compared between year 2019 and 2020. 29 hospital acquired conjunctivitis were reported for the hospital attendance of 6021 patients giving a rate of 4.8 per 1000 cases. 1 case of hospital acquired conjunctivitis was reported for the hospital attendance of 648 patients fiving a rate of 1.5 per 1000 cases.
CONCLUSION: The COVID prophylaxis in hospitals has significantly reduced the cross contamination of patients by hospital associated microbes. It is recommended to adopt these prophylaxis as universal safety procedures even after the COVID pandemic wanes out.
