Abstract
AIM:To evaluate challenges & clinical outcome of phakic implantable collamer lens (ICL)for correcting high myopic astigmatism in keratoconic(KC) eyes.
METHOD:Prospective case series included 9 eyes of 7 patients with spherical equivalent(SE) of -4.7±3.9D,who underwent toric ICL implantation for moderate to severe KC.It was done as primary procedure in 6 eyes and secondary in 3 eyes.Pre-operative challenges like variability in refraction, keratometry, sulcus to sulcus & counselling were addressed.Outcomes measured at 1,6 &12 months postoperatively.
RESULT:Variability in refraction was addressed by correlating it with keratometry.Readings based on pupil size & from scheimpflug based topographer were used for calculation.Mean unaided visual acuity improved from 0.89±0.5to 0.32±0.1logMAR.Mean SE decreased by 75% from -4.7±3.9 to -1.2 ± 2.8 & mean cylinder by 10%
CONCLUSION:Toric ICL in KC despite its challenges, gave good results of safety & efficacy, suggesting viability as surgical tool.
