Abstract
AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of re-canalization of the nasolacrimal duct (NLD) as a sequel to dacryocystectomy(DCT) with a modified technique of canaliculo-dacryocystorhinostomy(CDCR) in the complete absence of the lacrimal sac. Methods:This prospective, cross sectional study included 15 proven and established post DCT patients with intact canaliculi and followed them up for one year. Procedure involved creating an osteum of optimum size, internal membranectomy made and the fashioned nasal mucosal flap anchored appropriately to create a passage in line with the common canaliculus(CC).Adjunctively bicanlicular intubation and MMC was used. Results : Of the 15 patients,14 had patent NLD ,one(6.66%)was symptomatically better with partial regurgitation of clear fluid.Three(20%) had tube prolapse after one month. Conclusion: With a success rate of 93.33% we conclude, this technique of modified CDCR in post DCT patients is a safe and effective technique with promising results.
