Abstract
In this prospective study,we included 94 patients with bilateral senile cataract who underwent consecutive phacoemulsification surgery for both eyes within time span of 3 months.RESULTS-BCVA for first and second eye improved from 0.43 ± 0.46 to 0.08 ± 0.10 logMAR(P<0.05) and from 0.44 ± 0.48 to 0.10 ± 0.10 logMAR(P<0.05) respectively.Overall composite score of NEIVFQ-25 for first and second eye improved from 48.58 to 62.55 and 48.16 to 62.48 respectively(all P<0.001).Improvements in mean scores were comparable after second eye than first eye surgery(14.71 ± 9.13 vs.14.28 ± 8.24,P>0.05).CONCLUSION-There is significant improvement in Best Corrected Visual Acuity and patient-reported vision-related quality of life outcomes among bilateral cataract patients after first and second eye cataract surgery.Postoperative gains in Visual function and quality of life subscales were marginally better after second eye than after first eye cataract surgery alone.
