Abstract
Purpose : To report a rare case of conjunctival malignant melanoma.
Method : A 29 year old male presented with a mass in left eye near medial canthus since 7 years with no history of sudden change in size or colour. Associated with intermittent redness and watering since 3 months which was unresponsive to treatment.
Examination : A 4.4 X 5.6 mm black coloured mass noted arising from bulbar conjunctiva near medial canthus.
Associated with hyperpigmented plaques and macules over left lateral aspect of neck, clavicle, forearm and palm.
Treatment : Wide excision of mass with clear margins and cryoablation with amniotic membrane graft under local anaesthesia.
Histopathology report revealed T4 and Clark’s level IV malignant melanoma of the conjunctiva.
Conclusion : Conjunctival melanoma is a rare but potentially fatal ocular malignancy which in this case masqueraded for years as a dark spot on the eye with occasional focal conjunctivitis which was resistant to topical medications.
