Abstract
Aim:To study the Quality of Life (QOL) in patients with Graves Ophthalmopathy (GO) with the help of Odiya translated–Quality of Life (GO-QOL) questionnaire. Methods:The original GO-QOL questionnaire was translated into Odiya language and given to 124 consecutive patients with Graves Ophthalmopathy (GO). Clinically active score (CAS) and the EUGOGO classifications were used to evaluate GO activity, and severity respectively. Results: The internal consistency of the GO-QOL, evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha, was optimal. In patients with long-duration GO, both visual function and appearance scores were negatively associated with the CAS and EUGOGO classifications (P < 0.001). Asymmetry, the presence of proptosis, and young age were associated with the appearance score(P < 0.001).Conclusion: GO, being a chronic disease has a negative impact on QOL in these patients. The questionnaire in the patient’s native language is a simple and effective tool in the assessment of Odiya patients with GO
