Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Comparison between amblyopia treatment with eye patch v/s open binocular occlu-tab device to check improvement in visual acuity and stereopsis among Indian children
MATERIALS AND METHODS 28 children (3-8 years) having anisometropic amblyopia were divided into two groups- 14 children for patching and rest 14 for Binocular Occlutab- both having 3 sessions of 1 hour each, per week for 8 weeks. Weekly LogMAR testing and Frisby stereotest was done to compare progress
RESULTS on statistical analysis, the difference in BCVA and stereopsis of both the groups was seen, with statistically significant improvement in the BCVA of both groups and far superior results in occlutab compared to standard patching therapy, but no significant change in stereopsis in both.
CONCLUSION Occlu-tab showed better results versus patching in improving BCVA if not stereopsis, also making it less embarrassing, less dangerous and more interesting to the children as a therapy to fight amblyopia.
