Abstract

Aspergillus is a transient contaminant of the ocular flora. While invasive fungal infections are clasically described in immunocompromised states(Eg: HIV, chronic steroid use,) they have also been described in immunocompetent individuals as well. Pregnancy is not an immunocompromised state per se, but there is a high degree of immunomodulation done by the mother’s body to save the fetus from rejection. This modulation though, is highly selective in its area of application and most other systemic organs have a negligible effect.

We describe a case of 34 yr old female who presented with a pigmented mass over the left lower eyelid since 2 weeks. Patient was at 7months Gestational age. There was associated congestion in the lower fornix. . As there were no systemic features, we made a provisional diagnosis of a left lower lid Pyogenic granuloma. The mass was about 1.5 x 1cm in dimension. Primary excision was done and the sample was sent for HPE
