Abstract
Aim: To describe a rare case of Rhizobium Endophthalmitis
Methods: Retrospectively analysis of case record was done
Results: A 12 years old boy presented with defective vision in the right eye(RE) following finger injury. BCVA was 5/60 in RE. Ocular examination revealed a rosette cataract. The patient was advised RE cataract extraction with IOL implantation. He was lost to follow up and one month later presented with signs suggestive of endophthalmitis. The patient underwent cataract extraction followed by intravitreal injections with Vancomycin and Ceftazidime. 3 days later vitrectomy was performed in view of increasing vitreous exudates. Gram staining revealed Gram-negative bacillus. PCR confirmed Rhizobium radiobacter. He underwent capsular bag removal with repeat vitrectomy and intravitreal injection. 6 months later he underwent SFIOL with BCVA of 6/12.
Conclusion: This is the first case of Rhizobium Endophthalmitis secondary to trauma, which has not been reported earlier.
