Abstract
Aim- to compare safety & efficacy of suprachoroidal triamcinolone & intravitreal dexamethasone in diabetic macular edema( DME ).Methods- comparative, prospective study on 36 EYES of DME with controlled type 2 DM, done at tertiary health care centre over 2 years. IVD group(n = 18) received Ozurdex followed up at 1 wk. 16 wk. while SCTA group(n = 18) received triamcinolone acetonide followed up at day1 and wks 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24. Results-At 6 months, mean improvement in BCVA & retinal thickness (CMT) through OCT in the SCTA group was 0.46logmar and 323μm and in IVD group was 0.43logmar and 321μm respectively. IOP rise was marginally high in the IVD group when compared to SCTA. Relative risk of cataract progression with IVD is 1.4 times higher compared to SCTA in a span of 24 weeks.Conclusions- Even though SCTA and IVD are equally efficacious and safe, SCTA is cost effective and has delayed & lesser complications than IVD.
