Abstract
Aim- To achieve target emmetropia in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Primary objectives – To evaluate post operative uncorrected (UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) for distance and near.
Secondary objectives – To evaluate the preoperative workup and post operative refraction.
TYPE – Prospective
Methods- 100 eyes of 74 patients with senile cataract giving consent underwent complete ophthalmic examination and IOL power calculated by Barrett’s universal version 2 calculator. Phacoemulsification done. At 1 month patients evaluated for UCVA and BCVA for both distance and near and refraction.
Results- 93% of the eyes achieved emmetropia. 20% of the eyes had a residual astigmatism of 0.75D. 64% patients achieved unaided emmetropia. 22% eyes had residual refractive error, hypermetropia in 16% and myopia in 6% .
Conclusion – . In our study we have found that a precise IOL power calculation and meticulous planning can help to achieve emmetropia after cataract surgery.
