Abstract
Glaucoma often presents silently, thus screening and early diagnosis can be instrumental in its prevention. An association of OSAS with open angle glaucoma is debatable. If a definite relationship between the two can be established, then OSAS would be an important screening tool in the diagnosis of POAG. So we evaluate the association of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome with POAG in patients admitted and diagnosed with OSAS in a Tertiary care hospital. In this observational study for 1 year, 72 patients of OSAS (by sleep studies) were taken up for ophthalmological examinations for the presence of POAG. Presence of systemic comorbidities and related ophthalmological changes were studied too . Out of 72 cases of OSAS, 9 (12.25%) had POAG , thus proving a high prevalence of POAG with OSAS as compared to the general population. Severe grade OSAS patients had maximum incidence (30%) of POAG. Smokers, dyslipidaemics, hypothyroids, hypertensives and diabetics have higher incidence of POAG.
