Abstract
Aim : Anterior scleritis may be the only presentation of an underlying systemic disease and has seasonal presentation
Methods: Five fresh cases of anterior scleritis presented with ocular pain and redness at our centre. They were diagnosed, investigated and managed. Two of the cases were referred to rheumatologist for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
Discussion: All these new cases, presented in autumn season of the same year, there could be a seasonal association of scleritis as seen with episcleritis. Half of the patients with scleritis have no identifiable cause rest have underlying systemic disease. Two patients of five were diagnosed with RA after being investigated.
Conclusion: Scleritis management may need a multidisciplinary approach. Also, more studies need to be done to bring out the association between onset and seasonal factors.
