Abstract
BACKGROUND:
Cysticercosis is common in endemic countries like India. Shows various clinical manifestations depending on the tissue involved. It refers to a parasitic infestation by Cysticercus cellulosae, larval form of the pork tapeworm or Taenia solium.
OBJECTIVE:
To report an unusual case of ocular cysticercosis involving the LPS-SR complex of LE.
CASE DESCRIPTION:
18 yr-old M presented with mild pain, U/L ptosis & inflammation of LE upper eyelid- 1 year. There was no h/o diurnal variation or trauma. Mass palpable in periorbital area superiory. Vision both
eye normal. Periocular & ocular examination: slightly restricted
ocular motility in the left upward gaze & severe ptosis. Bells phenomenon good. MRI orbit showed a cystic lesion in SR-LPS complex s/o ocular cysticercosis. The patient was treated with
oral prednisolone & albendazole, he showed a significant improvement.
CONCLUSION:
Ocular myocysticercosis can be diagnosed by MRI & be treated medically with
steroid & albendazole.
