Abstract
Purpose-Retrospective analysis of high prevalence of Asthenopia during Apr-Jun 2020.
Material and methods –In Medical records of 103 patients,one of the following symptoms-tired, aching, irritated, watery,dry eye,eye strain, burning eye,blurred vision,difficulty in focussing,visual discomfort, was considered as asthenopia.Ocular examinations included uncorrected/corrected visual acuity measurement,objective/subjective refraction,cover test,amplitude of accommodation and near point of convergence.
Results –Of 103 patients(10-50 years),45% were between 30-50 years, 33% were between 10-20 years.
Conclusion- The study shows relatively high prevalence of asthenopia in school and college students(10-20 years) and professionals(30-50 years) due to online classes and work from home in COVID era. Important risk factors include visual system disorders,environmental, psychological factors and prolonged duration of computer work.Timely correction of risk factors may lead to decreased asthenopia.
