Abstract
We report 2 cases of deeply buried scleral foreign body mimicking episcleritis. In 1st case 13 year boy came with painless localized paralimbal swelling in OS since 1 month. Vision OU was 6/6.Provisional diagnosis of nodular episcleritis was made & topical steroids were given to no relief.Foreign body suspicion & UBM revealed subconjunctival hypo-echoic lesion with hyper-echoic foci in outer scleral coats suggestive of ?foreign body ?cysticercus cyst.Detailed history revealed trauma with pencil 1 month ago.Similarly, a 28 year male presented with similar history, complaints & clinical course.X-ray orbit showed a linear opacity in superonasal quadrant of the orbit. Both patients underwent globe exploration & foreign body removal which was a wooden particle in first and iron piece in second, embedded deep in sclera. These cases highlight importance of thorough history taking with high index of suspicion for foreign body in cases of localised redness, not responding to conventional therapy.
