Abstract
Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of Photoactivated chromophore in infectious keratitis (PACK-CXL) and medical management of Infectious Keratitis without C3R Methods: A Prospective randomized trial was conducted on 30 eyes with mild to moderate keratitis . Fifteen eyes received PACK-CXL (GROUP A) and 15 eyes received standard medical treatment only (GROUP B) without C3R. Evaluated on day 1, 3 , 7, 15 , 21st day and 2 mths . RESULTS: In Group A, mean area of corneal ulcer before treatment was 9.26±4.77mm2 and in Group B it was 10.3 ±6.7mm2. Mean time taken for complete healing 44.08± 21.05 days was significantly lesser in Group A a.c.t 24.6± 14.62 days in group B ( P = 0.029). Perforation and progressive deterioration leading to Therapeutic PK were noted in 2 patients in Group A but none in group B.CONCLUSIONS: The study showed no added advantage of treating corneal ulcers with PACK-CXL, we might be adding complications.
