Abstract
Aim:To evaluate the factors responsible for non compliance in management of glaucoma
Method:Glaucoma suspect patient in rural areas around Lucknow who had presence >/= 2 risk factors which included intra ocular pressure >18mmhg,cup disc ratio >/= 0.5 or a difference of more than 2 in both eyes or a family history of glaucoma were enrolled in our study
Results:Total 342 suspected patients were highlighted.Out of which 238 patients turned up for detailed evaluation in which 170 patients were confirmed having glaucoma.43.5% were irregular for followup.the main reasons for this were attributed to lack of money,lapse in drop instillation,awkwardness in using medications.30.4% patient who were mainly asymptomatic did not turn up. Other reasons being negligence regarding their health,poverty,thinking that its ophthalmologist vested interest.
Conclusion: Patient education and awareness are required to demystify the old odd beliefs and norms which hamper the glaucoma management.
