Abstract
To describe 3 cases of unsuspected neoplasms in previously blind eyes, with recent onset pain. Case1: 24yr female with pain, redness in non-seeing right eye(R/E) for 2months. R/E had total cataract, low IOP, and a well-defined globular mass at the posterior pole, seen on ultrasound. Enucleation with implant was done. Histopathology clinched the diagnosis of choroidal melanoma. Case2: 20yr male, developed pain, redness in L/E for 2months. L/E was blind since childhood, secondary to trauma. The patient underwent enucleation. Histopathology and IHC revealed a diagnosis of ependymoma. Case3: 24yr male with pain, redness in L/E for 6months, with decrease in size of eyeball.L/E was phthisical with diffuse congestion, BSK, cataract, and NVI. Imaging revealed small distorted globe with mass along posterior pole. Histopathology of the enucleated specimen confirmed the diagnosis of choroidal osteoma. Hence in case of a painful blind eye, it is important to rule out an intraocular malignancy.
