Abstract
AIM: TO ASSESS THE DIAGNOSTIC YIELD OF NEUROIMAGING IN INTERNUCLEAR OPHTHALMOPLEGIA
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective observational study involving 31 patients diagnosed with internuclear ophthalmoplegia in the past 2 years was done. .
RESULT: Out of 31 cases, 41.9% were males ,61.3% patients had associated comorbidities, with diabetes mellitus being the predominant (58.4%). Bilateral INO was seen in 23.3% cases and skew deviation was seen in 12.9% cases. Double vision was found to be the most common presenting symptom (83.9%). MRI findings were within normal limits in 53.4% cases, while acute infarct as a cause of INO was seen in 36.7% cases, traumatic (3.3%)and infectious(3.3%) . Resolution of symptoms was seen in 96.7% cases.
CONCLUSION: A proper history and neuro-ophthalmic examination can help in clinically diagnosing a case of INO. In our study, commonest etiology of INO was ischemic cause, despite the neuroimaging yield to be only 46.6%.
