Abstract
*Purpose of this study was to assess the safety & efficacy of morcher black iris diaphragm IOL implantation for managing large iris defects & aphakia.
*In this prospective study preoperative & postoperative data on 10 patients implanted with a black iris diaphragm IOL & followed upto 1 year were reviewed.
* Safety measures included loss of corrected distance visual acuity (COVA) perioperative complications, adverse effects & secondary surgical interventions.
*Efficacy measures included COVA with glare , daytime & night time glare symptom scores & subjective cosmesis score.
*In 18 eyes of 10 patients there was a 7 line improvement in median Snellen CDVA.The CDVA with glare improved.The mean subjective glare symptoms during the day & night & the mean cosmesis score improved significantly.
*Black iris diaphragm IOL implantation in eyes with large iris defects were relatively safe & very effective at improving CDVA & reducing light & glare sensitivity.
