Abstract
Takayasu arteritis is a chronic inflammatory arteritis affecting the large vessels-predominantly aorta and its main branches. Ophthalmic features include hypotensive or hypertensive retinopathy, cataract, corkscrew conjunctival vessels, rubeosis iridis, neovascular glaucoma, ischemic optic neuropathy, optic atrophy etc. Manifestations due to retinal hypoxia consist of microaneurysms, arterio-venous anastomosis, retinal vein occlusions, proliferative retinopathy , vitreous and pre-retinal haemorrhage, tractional retinal detachment. In this case series, we describe ocular features of three patients with takayasu arteritis who presented to us with decreased vision and varied ocular manifestations of takayasu arteritis. Patients were treated with laser and intravitreal injections. Prompt diagnosis and early intervention is mandatory in these patients to prevent vision threatening complications like neovascular glaucoma and tractional detachment, and salvage vision.
