Abstract
A nine months infant presented with history of swelling in left lids since 2 weeks .The patient was earlier at private hospital for 7 days & was given intravenous drugs. On examination , the infant had severe inflamed lids & conjunctival congestion. She had cleft palate, whose margins were infiltrated but there was no history of difficulty feeding or any respiratory findings.CT Scan brain with orbits revealed edematous changes & soft tissue thickening in preseptal region of left upper eyelid & in left periorbital region , likely left orbital cellulitis.MRI orbits with contrast could not be done as child didn’t get sedated. No active intervention was advised from pediatric surgery or ENT side.Patient was started on broad spectrum intravenous antibiotics along with oral steroids ( as per advice from ENT people) & responded well.Pus from cleft palate region sent for culture revealed aerobic organisms.Along with lid edema , palate infiltration also disappeared after 10 days of treatment.
