Abstract
The study was carried out on 50 patients of branch retinal vein occlusion in hypertension, selected by randomisation. Control groups consisted of 50 age and sex-matched hypertensives.
Material and methods-Complete blood count with platelet indices, random blood sugar,ESR and lipid profile were collected in a vacutainer tube and was analysed within one hour. Applanation tonometry, slit lamp examination and fundus examination was done.
Platelet counts were significantly reduced in cases (2.11±0.1331) compared to controls with p<0.01. Conclusion-The present study shows a significant decrease in platelet count and an increase in platelet distribution width in BRVO patients compared to controls establishing the role of platelets in hypertension induced vascular injury.
