Abstract
Purpose- To evaluate the effects of Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) on peripapillary RNFL thickness since August 2015 to July 2017 in tertiary hospitals.
MATERIALS & METHODS – 50 female patients of child bearing age with IDA ( Hb <12 gm/do, Serum Transferrin < 19 %, serum iron< 50 ugm /dl & serum ferritin < 15ugm/dl) & 50 age ,sex matched healthy control subjects were sequentially recruted. Optic disc & RNFL thickness of both groups were studied by spectrial domain OCT. Average age in anaemic gr. was 35. 65yrs & that of control gr. was 36.15yrs. Average time between blood analysis & OCT is 3-10days in anaemic group & 3-7 days in control group. RESULTS- Peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured by OCT. Av.thickness of anaemic gr.is 95.76 & that of control gr. 100.33 . Temporal, nasal & inferior quadrant average RNFL thickness of IDA gr is thinner than that of control. It may influence on management of Glaucoma & neroophthalmological disease associated with IDA.
