Abstract
Aim:To analyze the clinical features, investigations, response to treatment and visual outcome in patients with ocular sarcoidosis and enumerate the risk factors for poor visual outcome.
Methods:Clinical data of 70 consecutive patients with ocular sarcoidosis were reviewed retrospectively during the period 2019 at a tertiary eye care centre.
Results & conclusion: Out of 70 patients, majority was female (55.7%) with median age of onset was 45.5 years. Panuveitis (28.5%) being the predominant anatomic location followed by anterior uveitis (25.7%). Majority of patients were probable (60%) followed by presumed (20%) ocular sarcoidosis. Among 70 patients, 32 had final BCVA of ≤20/50 and 38 had >20/50 in the worst affected eye with mean follow up period of 15.5 months (range 6-34). Factors linked to poor visual outcome and the need for aggressive treatment were the presence of cystoid macular oedema (p=0.007), cataract (p<0.0001), band shaped keratopathy (p=0.025) and papillitis(p=0.006).
