Abstract
Purpose:To describe orbital cellulitis as complication of rhinosinusitis and role of CT scan and endoscopic surgery to prevent life threatening complications.
Case Report:A 23-year-old male with left eye pain, swelling, proptosis and dimness of vision (DoV) had restricted extraocular motility (EOM) and relative afferent pupillary defect with blurred disc margin. Based on CT scan suggesting subperiosteal abscess of orbit due to pansinusitis and no response to systemic antibiotics, endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) was done by ENT surgeon leading to rapid recovery of symptoms and vision.
A similar case of orbital cellulitis secondary to pansinusitis in a 17-year-old male with DoV, pain, swelling, restricted EOM of right eye and bloody nasal discharge was operated with ESS and showed recovery of swelling and EOM, but loss of vision.
Conclusion:Urgent diagnostic studies help to diagnose etiology of orbital cellulitis and if required surgical approach to be done to prevent severe complications.
