Abstract
Purpose-To compare surgically induced astigmatism and visual outcome in SICS done through superiorly placed 5.5mm and 4.5mm scleral incision.
Methods-60 patients having immature senile cataract were selected. 30 of them underwent SICS with 5.5mm superior scleral incision while in the rest 4.5mm incision was used. After 4 weeks, astigmatism was calculated in all the patients along with visual outcome and compared.
Result- Surgically induced astigmatism was lesser in patients who underwent SICS with 4.5 mm scleral incision along with getting a better visual outcome as compared to the other group.
Conclusion-There is a definite relation between scleral incision size and the induced astigmatism following surgery and the surgeon can utilize this information to achieve a better visual prognosis.
