Abstract
Purpose: To compare visual outcomes (distant, intermediate and near vision), success rate of providing spectacle independence and aberrations caused by Trifocal and Extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL).
Methods: A comparative study was conducted on 34 eyes of 34 patients of age group 40-80 years, who presented with age related cataract and had undergone cataract surgery with implantation of Trifocal or EDOF IOL with 17 patients for each group.
Results: Trifocal and EDOF IOLs provided good distant and near visual acuity with EDOF IOL having better intermediate visual acuity. Both groups had a high success rate in providing spectacle independence. EDOF IOL had more total higher order aberrations as compared to Trifocal IOL.No significant difference was observed in glare acuity and contrast sensitivity between two groups.
Conclusion: Trifocal and EDOF IOL provides excellent visual outcomes with EDOF IOL having an added advantage of providing better intermediate vision.
