Abstract
Purpose: Ocular TORCH infections have poor visual prognosis plagued with low diagnosis rate.Study tries to find out prevalence of TORCH in a retina referral unit and its outcomes relative to effectiveness of our health information system.Method: 3126 patients referred to retina clinic were screened for ocular TORCH infections,& scored on health information, from May, 2019 to December,2019. TORCH patients were also checked up for other systemic lesions and treated and followed up for 3 months at least. Results: Total 69 ocular TORCH infections were diagnosed with toxoplasmosis being majority (41), systemic associations found in 11 patients. Visual outcome was largely poor despite best possible treatment. A positive correlation found out with rural residences(19%), literacy level(21%),young age (13%), inaccessibility to preventive health information (15%).Inference: Betterment of focused preventive healthcare can prevent late diagnosis and reduce the sequel of ocular TORCH infections.
