Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To study association between meibomian gland dysfunction & LDL-C ‘or’ HDL-C
METHOD: An observational cross- sectional study was done,94 MGD cases aged 18-55yrs were undertaken & were diagnosed on basis of OSDI questionnaire, lid features, meibum quality &expressibility, fluorescein staining. Staging was done as per International workshop on MGD&management,2011 &eye with more severity of MGD was included in study. The fasting LDL-C & HDL-C was done for MGD pts & age&sex matched controls without MGD &their LDL-C &HDL-C were compared.
RESULTS:Level of LDL-C was >=130mg/dl was more in the cases as compared to controls and was statistically significant (p=0.018) and level of HDL-C<40mg/dl was comparable in cases and control & was not statistically significant(p=0.883)CONCLUSION: The ophthalmologists play an important role in diagnosing lipid levels in MGD patients which is of great help in diagnosing various CVS disease of which raised LDL-C ‘or’ reduced HDL-C is the cause.
