Abstract
Phacoemulsification of mature hard and rock hard cataracts present the surgeon with a series of specific and difficult challenges. However the challenges are quite critical when these hard cataracts are associated with rhexis extension, zonular weakness, capsular disruption, intraoperative miosis, posterior polar cataract, corneal opacity and lens subluxation. The objective of this video based course is to demonstrate innovative surgical techniques and technologies to conquer these challenges and highlight, step – by – step management of the situation. The choice of phaco settings, variation of fluidics, phaco tips, new choppers and chopping methods will be vividly shown and discussed. The use of capsule staining techniques, capsular bag stabilization devices and pupil expanding devices will be demonstrated. At the end of the course interactive discussion with the faculty will allow the attendees to understand and apply surgical skills to achieve safe and predictable outcomes.
