Abstract
Corneal perforations are ophthalmological emergencies those can have serious and detrimental outcomes. Corneal perforations may occur following infective, neurotrophic and autoimmune corneal disorders. Corneal perforations may also occur following trauma and chemical injuries. Referrals to the tertiary care centres indicate that corneal perforations are either missed or treated inappropriately. Ophthalmologists should have high index of suspicion and perform Seidel’s test to detect corneal perforations early.
Choice of treatment option is determined by the size, location and underlying aetiology of perforation. Small and medium-sized corneal perforations are amenable to cyanoacrylate, fibrin glue and AMG. However patch grafts, conjunctival pedicle grafts and therapeutic grafts are needed for large perforations. Case-based presentations augmented with videos of techniques will give attendees a real-time experience of managing corneal perforations.
