Abstract
More than 500 to 10,000 species of bacteria and other microorganism can be found on the human body. These microorganisms can be both beneficial and detrimental to health. Now our understanding of microbes has gone way beyond comprehension because of rapidly developing sequencing methods and analytical techniques. However we have new challenges including drug resistance and infections by novel organisms. We have new explanations on drug resistance such as mutation. The eye is no exception and is affected by a variety of both known and novel organisms. The control of these infections requires rapid recognition and appropriate management.
In this course, experienced speakers will discuss ocular infections with case examples and also highlight the new understanding in the field of ocular infections. The course will end with a talk on standard recommended microbiological techniques to be followed by ophthalmologists
